"VIVA LA PATRIA" engraved on silver plaque, Mexican eagle & liberty cap poncoins at breech identify this circa 1821 pistol. 13" overall, 8.25" tapered and slightly swamped full blued octagonal barrel, steel mounted, 5.5" steel belt hook, fine checkered & carved stock signed "Jn Vz". A few enlisted Mexican made copies of Spanish 1802 cavalry pistol are known, this exceptional officer's pistol was prized by Mr. Labauve and thought made for important early revolutionary figure. CONDITION: fine overall, retains bright original blue in protected areas of barrel, stock retains 90% original varnished finish. Mechanics crisp, bright clear smooth bore.
