FLINTLOCK PISTOLS. Cal. 54. NSN. 19.5" overall, 12.5" ribbed tapered barrels, Engraved pointed tail locks signed "De Lugre Angers". Angers was home to several 17th century and early 18th century gun makers. Few examples of any are easily found. De Lugre is probably Pierre De Lugre (1690-1740). Striped & varnished full stocks, raised moldings, steel mounts including sculptured pierced side plates, fleur-de-lis finial trigger guards. This is a beautiful pair of matching pistols made in an area known for quality guns, with very few survivors by any maker documented. CONDITION: very good overall, both are complete & original, iron cleaned with toned patina, pitting, stocks are fine as scattered areas of restoration. Barrel addresses are poorly freshened. Mechanics are good, clear smooth bores. PROVENANCE: William W. Ivey collection. (01-29034/JS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-6,000.
