HOLSTERS & SHABRAQUE. This visually impactful military saddle is brown and black leather with an extremely high rear seat and an eagle head pommel at the front. The top of the saddle has a floral and chain motif embossed and sewn into the leather. Long curved side panels with iron stirrups and full stirrup straps adorn the sides. This beautiful saddle is accompanied by a pair of black leather saddle holsters, likely for single shot pistols. The holsters are complete with their covers and the connecting pommel strap. Amazingly, the early shabraque still accompanies this saddle. The shabraque is blue wool over leather with a yellow/orange binding and a 1" bullion tape surrounding the outside edge. There is a leather pocket on each side with an oval pad just ahead of it. CONDITION: there are some separations to the leather seat, but the saddle remains structurally sound. The pommel has an ancient mellow patina and the stirrups have a well oxidized but smooth finish. The saddle holsters are substantially intact but are missing their closure straps and there is some separation at the pommel loop. The shabraque shows wear to the edge binding and the side pockets are a bit detached in places. Despite these minor issues, this saddle, shabraque and holsters make an exceptional display piece and could easily be the centerpiece of any early mounted or officer collection. (02-27179/BF). NON-GUN. $1,200-1,800.
