A very nice example of an early style German swept hilt broadsword from the 16th to the mid-17th century that was likely recreated during the Victorian era or later. The sword measures 46" overall with a 39 1/4" double edged blade. The blade has a very slight fuller extending 15" up the blade with a single armorer's mark on the ricasso. The crossguard is 12" across and there is a double ring and a sweeping loop guard. Large conical style pommel with incised lineal design. Quartered wire wrapped grip with a ferrule and cap. CONDITION: The sword has a lightly mottled medium gray patina with some minor variation. The wire wrapped grip has losses. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24774/BF). NON-GUN. $400-700.
