Cal. 40 2 1/2". S#. C53100. This variant is an early example sporting rifle which would go on to be called the Model 1874 in later years. It was invoiced to Sharp's dealer, M.L. Rood of Denver, CO, November 13, 1872. It is lettered as a caliber .44 with a 28" bbl, double set triggers, oiled finish stocks & globe/peep sights. It was originally purchased for $46. It is currently fitted with a 30" 40 2 1/2" caliber octagon bbl with "OLD RELIABLE", "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT. CONN.", & "CALIBRE 40" markings on the top flat, as well as, "2 1/2" on the right flat. It has a dovetailed bead front sight & a Lawrence Patent rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked with the "C. SHARPS PAT. / SEPT 12TH 1848". Double set triggers.
