1892 KRAG BOLT-ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 15. Bbl. 30". Barrel has rounded "crown". Model 1892 Krag rifles in original configuration are extremely scarce. This rifle has a very early serial number, however, it has received various updates and no longer retains all of its Model 1892 features. The receiver is dated 1894. The Model 1892 rifles will have either Model 1894 or 1895 dates. Receiver is marked on left side with "U.S. / 1894 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 15". The rear sight was upgraded to a Model 1896 with a binding screw which holds the slide. Sight ladder graduated to 1,800 yards. Blade front sight. The replacement bolt has the lightened guide rib, which was introduced around serial number 14,600. The extractor features a hold open pin not present on the earliest bolts. Extractor is secured by a rivet. Bolt sleeve is not knurled. Safety is unmarked and has the spring-loaded spindle. Period replacement walnut stock is marked only with encircled "P" script and tiny letters "C.B" along with a neatly stamped "F / 20" unit marking ahead of buttplate tang. Stock is equipped with curved toe and smooth trap buttplate. This stock has had the ramrod channel expertly filled by arsenal quality workmanship. The double strap upper band does not have the slot between the stacking swivel ears. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 11 1/2" fullered blade bayonet. 16 1/8" overall. Bayonet marked on left ricasso "1894". Right ricasso marked "U.S.". Walnut grips retained by rivets. Grips show light machining marks. Metal scabbard with belt hook. Scabbard with wear and notable fine pitting throughout has dents and bending at the tip, but still accepts bayonet. Bayonet has light peppery oxidation and very fine pitting throughout. Grips are worn with chipping and notable crack on left side. CONDITION: stock set has a very nice appearance with the scattered small handling marks stemming from careful use. Handguard has crack on the top right extending from the scope base to the head of the retaining clip rivet. Metal retains a large degree of its original finish with the mag. cover turning a notable gray with spots of oxidation. Bore has lightly worn lands with frosted grooves. (01-29801/RW). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
