PERCUSSION BREECHLOADING SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 50. S# 3892. Early production Gallager carbines have the lockplate markings such as this one, "GALLAGER/PATENTED JULY 17TH 1860 / SN" . This was later changed to the Richardson & Overman patent marking. There were over 17,000 carbines produced in the entire run of Gallager carbines and the carbines saw extensive use by Union forces including; OH, TN & WV units. It is fitted with a 22 1/4" with dovetailed iron block front sight having a pinned blade and 3-position flip up rear. Matching SN on the lever. The straight grip stock has the sling ring bar attached, iron patchbox, iron buttplate, & no visible stock cartouche. CONDITION: overall good. Meta has a mottled brown patina with the balance showing a relatively even grey. The stock is nice showing some hand wear and moderate dings. Very fine bright bore with nice rifling. (01-29049/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
