EARLY PRE-WWI U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 BOLT
ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 350379. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 6-08". Rifle manufactured in 1908. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,850 yards with volley notch. Grooved and dished windage and elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Straight down bolt handle. Bolt is marked at bottom of handle "BS". All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. Receiver without Hatcher hole. Walnut stock set. "S" type straight grip stock with single recoil bolt. Stock is marked on left side with boxed "EAH" acceptance mark and marked under grip with faint encircled "P" proof. Stock is additionally marked with "X" and "H" in cutoff recess. Stock tip is marked "S". Handguard appears to be a replacement. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel-plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: buttstock has been lightly cleaned, resulting in a slight softening of edges. Butt has a good appearance with light wear and scattered handling marks. Handguard in very good condition with light wear. Metal has turned mostly gray with patina and spots of peppery oxidation. Small amount of original blue in protected areas. Middle band has an arsenal rework blue. Bore is shiny with lightly worn lands and a slightly frosted appearance in grooves. (25-6292/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
