Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 35085. Bbl. 19". Standard Type 44 sights. Safety is of the correct carbine type but mismatched, while all other visible parts have matching assembly numbers. First variation Type 44 carbine with short bayonet housing. Receiver ring shows grind mark across mum with T44 markings. Left side of receiver has serial & Tokyo arsenal symbol. Blued finish with strawed small parts. Asian hardwood stock set with two piece butt & left side sling swivels. Underside of butt has partly faded Kanji markings. Folding spike bayonet & hook present. CONDITION: stock set retains strong Urushi finish with the expected scattered dings, handling marks & scratches. Metal retains 95-97% original blue with some light oxidation, handling & edge wear. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Near excellent bright bore. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. (26-2312/MJC). CURIO. $1200-1800.
