Cal. 69. The 2nd contract for Whitney to produce the 1822 (improved 1816) was signed in 1830. By the end of the contract in 1841 approx 24,000 of them were produced. It is fitted with a 42" bbl with bayonet lug. The bbl is held with 3 iron bbl bands, the forward of which has an integral brass blade front sight. The lock is marked "NEW/HAVEN/1835" behind the hammer and "U.S./ ARROW&BRANCH/E.WHITNEY" forward of the cock. The stock has a partially visible cartouche ring and "VIC" stamped near the sideplate. US marked buttplate. CONDITION: Overall good. The metal has a freckled spotty oxidation with good crisp lock markings. The stock has been sanded and refinished with added varnish.
