SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 7303. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM for the Imperial German military and subsequently retained after the war for German police use. The bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1918" over the top of the chamber, with a sole DWM inspector proof and an Imperial German Reichsadler marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Bbl. exhibits a Simson Eagle/33 proof, with a Simson Eagle/6 proof marked on the firing pin. Left side of the breechblock is marked Crown/N commercial nitro proof. Front grip strap exhibits a crossed out unit mark "S.W.I.1413", indicating prior issue to the "Schutzpolizei Wiesbaden" (Protection Police, Wiesbaden). Metal components exhibit a period police arsenal reapplied blue finish, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips and has no stock lug. Interior of the left panel exhibits a handwritten "I/ 4" in penciled, with a small police Star/K proof marked on the interior of the right panel. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy trigger bar safety, with the frame featuring a clipped Walther trigger / mag. safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl. extension (stamped twice), trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Trigger bar and extractor's previous S# was crossed out, with "03" stamped adjacently. Breechblock and forward toggle link (S# on underside), are both marked with a "1" that is stamped horizontally and adjacent to the S#. MAGS: 1 matching plated 8-rd. with aluminum plug. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their apparent period police arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, some light superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Strawed parts are very good, with worn areas fading to gray patina and showing spots/patches of age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6070/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
