UNFIRED ANTIQUE WINCHESTER 1886 DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40-65. S# 70197. Mfg. 1892. Bbl. 26" octagonal. With fewer than 160,000 rifles produced from 1886-1935, the model 1886 Winchester remains a highly desirable firearm amongst collectors today. This example, was manufactured in the configuration originally marketed by Winchester as "Fancy Sporting Rifle", known commonly today simply as "Deluxe". Rifle features factory original checkered 2X walnut forend and pistol grip stock with ebony insert. Color Case hardened forend cap, receiver, lever and hammer. Blued steel barrel & mag. tube. Left side of lower tang stamped "349 XX". Upper tang channel of stock stamped with matching "349". While the 40-65 caliber has long been overlooked, it should be noted that it is relatively scarce in comparison to other calibers. "IDENTIFYING YOUR MODEL 1886 WINCHESTER" by John Madl states 17,651 Model 1886s were manufactured in this caliber (11%). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Record's Check stating the following: "Serial number applied August 29, 1892 / Type: Rifle / Caliber: 40/65 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: Plain / Checkered stock, Pistol grip. / Received in warehouse on September 03, 1892 / Shipped from warehouse on September 03, 1892, Order number 4610".
