DESCRIPTION
4.25" x 6.5", depicts Siringo mounted on a horse. Verso marked in pencil "Charles A. Siringo". Born February 1855, Charles "Charlie" Siringo began work as a rancher for Abel Head "Shanghai" Pierce at the age of 16. During work at the LX Ranch in 1880, Siringo was tasked with retrieving cattle stolen by William H. Bonney, also known as "Billy the Kid". After the infamous Chicago Haymarket Affair, Sirigno joined the Pinkerton Detective Agency. He served with the Pinkertons and served undercover for several large cases, including infiltrating the "Wild Bunch" led by famous outlaw Butch Cassidy. Siringo wrote two novels detailing his adventures, A Texas Cowboy in 1885, focusing on his work as a rancher and cowboy; and A Cowboy Detective: A True Story of Twenty-Two Years with a World Famous Detective Agency in 1912. The latter work, as well as his 1915 writing Two Evil "Isms", Pinkertonism and Anarchism were subject to legal action by the Agency. Siringo Died in Altadena, California, on October 18, 1928. He is buried at the Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California. **Good condition overall. Some wear to corners and edges of mounts. Some flaking of emulsion.** $100-$300
