William Buchelle (1895-1977) author of 2 texts on recreating the American long rifle was a master craftsman. His Kentucky rifles and hawks are among the finest recreations made in the 1950s-1970s. Sotheby's cataloged a nearly identical unsigned Buchele hawk as "Potawatomi Ceremonial Pipe Tomahawk, circa 1820" in 1990 catalog. This hawk has his signature 6.5" cast iron head, 2.25" cutting edge, engraved brass pipe bowl, 17" striped maple stem has unique engraved silver insets of dolphin and arrows. CONDITION: fine overall.
