Cal. 44 (54 bore). S# 6809. The London Armoury Co. produced about 11,000 large 54 bore revolvers from 1859-1866. The largest part of that production was purchased by the Confederacy, and most have the Confederate inspection mark of John Southgate, JS/anchor and this marking is present on this revolver. The largest part of production, about 8000 guns were shipped to the Confederate States and it was very popular among the cavalry as reports suggest. This is an honest complete survivor. CONDITION: good overall, original, complete, & matching, metal overall has light pitting, S# weak on cylinder, grips sound, JS/anchor marking is weak but discernible. Mechanics need attention, holds cock, but cylinder does not index properly, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Butterfield & Butterfield June 27, 2001. (01-28983/JS). ANTIQUE.$3,000-5,000.
