ANTIQUE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 140022. Mfg. 1891. While this revolver was mfg in 1891 it was later engraved with nearly full coverage engraving in the style of Cole Agee with numerous prominent Texas cattle brands including "7UP", "XIT", "2 Lazy 2 P", "101" and many more. The brands are accented with a punch dot background and small floral accents. The only portions of this revolver that is not covered with the engraving is the hammer, an area of the recoil shield, both straps, and flutes. Cole Agee never signed any of the pistols when he was engraving, therefore determining if this is actually his hand or an extremely well executed engraving in his style would be hard. His style of Texas cattle brand engraving was later continued by his student Weldon Bledsoe. The revolver is stocked with custom 1-piece ivory steer head carved grips on the right and a nude woman striking a pose on the left with "STERLING/HANDMADE" marked caps and beaded silver back strap trim. It is fitted with a 5.5" bbl with 1-line Hartford address with the engraving surrounding the marking, as well as the "JTC" & "P" proofing found on the bottom of the bbl. The frame is "US" marked with 2-line "PAT. SEPT. 19.1871 / JULY W. 82. JAN. 19. 75." roll stamp and "RAC" inspection stamp. The straps have "K" sub inspector proof marks. SN on frame and straps match. Cylinder has SN "0908". CONDITION: overall very good. The revolver was not finished after engraving and has a nice even, dark aged patina that looks very nice with the stocks and silver trim work. The engraving is crisp, and markings are strong. The straps have a little bit of their bluing in the most protected of areas. Grips are very nice with a little bit of gapping from being slightly undersized where the grip meets the frame. Bore has distinct rifling with some pitting. (01-29488/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $6,000-9,000.
