Cal. 44. S# 16063. Springfield Research Service has serial number range matches attributed to issuance of Starr DA Armies to both the 19th and 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry in the Civil War. The 19th Pa. Cavalry was one of the larger regiments raised in the CW between 1863 to early 1864. They were active in the Atlanta Campaign and Sherman's March through Georgia. The 21st Penna Cavalry also very large was active in reconnaissance during the Gettysburg Campaign but mostly in the Shenandoah taking part in Battles of New Market, Opequan, Fisher's Hill and Cedar Creek. The Starr DA Armies were made during 1862-63 but were taken back when Single action Armies were introduced but also later issued in the Civil War. Configuration, 6" round barrel, frame stamped "STARRS PATENT JAN. 15 1856" & "STARR ARMS CO. NEW YORK" on either side. Most metal parts have military inspector initials, 1-piece grips inspection cartouched on both sides. Soldier personalized with carved "BJC" in butt. CONDITION: good to very good overall. All matching. Metal is smooth brown patina, good markings, Grips have discernible cartouches. Mechanically fine other than trigger does not reset automatically after firing, crisp rifled bore.
