Cal. 56-56. S# 16041. Standard configuration of the popular breech loading carbine; 22" bbl., buttstock has tarp & magazine that holds 7 rds. in buttstock magazine. Abraham Lincoln himself tested one of these guns & recommended it for service regardless of its high price. Troops armed w/ Spencers had tremendous firepower as proven by the 5th Michigan at Gettysburg & Wilder's Brigade at Hoover's gap. 3 Line address on top of breech. 2 Position adj. rear sight. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Iron gray/brown patina, 3 line address is only partially discerned "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". Stocks are sound w/ 2 very good inspector cartouches. Mechanically fine w/ well defined rifled bore w/ pitting. (01-28989/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,500.
