SGT. FOGG OF THE 7TH CONNECTICUT INFANTRY. This fine Civil War grouping belonged to Charles Fogg of the 7th Connecticut Infantry. Fogg died while in captivity at Andersonville Prison. Included in this group is 1) A McDowell style enlisted kepi of blue wool with a 7" rise in the rear and a 4 1/2" rise in the front. The top has an enlisted infantry horn with a "7" in the center. The tarred leather chin strap has a single buckle and is terminated by two Civil War enlisted cuff size eagle buttons. The characteristic down turned tarred leather visor is bound at the edges. There is a 2" leather chin strap and a brown polished cotton lining. CONDITION: hat has some fading and loss of knap. Visor and chin strap are crazed. The liner and sweatband show significant wear but are substantially intact. 2) A leather left boot approx. size 11 with a 13" high rise. The boot is typical of those worn in the Civil War. CONDITION: boot is well worn and is dry with minor losses. 3) Civil War era carpet bag of various shades of brown with red flowers. The lining is a faded light blue check that is stenciled "SERGT. C. FOGG 7 CT. INF". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 6 modern reproductions of photographs showing Andersonville Prison. CONDITION: the body of the bag is quite solid, though both handles are detached but included inside the bag. The leather base is worn and cracked. (02-27182/BF). NON-GUN. $2,500-3,500.
