RIVIERE. Cal. 62. NSN. Bbl. 8". Isaac Riviere worked in London between 1809-1851. These pistols have 8" twist oct. bbls. engraved "LONDON" on tops. Engraved breech irons have integral U-notch rear sights. Locks w/ line engraved chamfered plates, rebated tails & sliding safeties are fitted w/ serpentine cocks, semi-water proof pans, bridled frizzens & roller feather springs w/ bulbous finials. Lockplates engraved "RIVIERE". Dense walnut stocks w/ checkered fishtail grips extend to muzzles & attach to bbls. w/ captive side bolts w/ out escutcheons. Iron trigger guards have pineapple finials. Rosewood ramrods. One plain, the other w/ worm on tail, mount through beaded iron pipes & matching thimbles. Steel belt hooks are affixed to left sides. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: guns are housed in oak case w/ dual pendant hook closure w/ ovolo molded top which has folding flush mounted D handle. Interior is lined in pilled green cloth & has lg. paper Riviere label in lid which has 315 Oxford Street London address (after 1818). Case contains copper & brass combination powder, ball & flint flask, combination cleaning rod/worm, 2 covered compartments w/ matching cloth on covers & bone knobs hold wad punch marked "16" & some cast balls. CONDITION: bbls. retaining over 90% good quality rebrown, other metal parts show cleaning to silver & furniture w/ subsequent new brown finish. Stocks retain most of their original finish w/ numerous light marks & a few heavier. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are fine. Mechanically fine. Case exterior shows considerable wear & handling & is refinished. Interior cloth is quite good w/ minor rubs & marks. Label lightly foxed w/ losses from contact w/ lock parts & another area at right which is somewhat tattered. Partitions are good. Accessories good. Loading rod has newly turned head. (01-28979/MGM).
