TRAVELLING PISTOLS. BOTH: Cal. 50. S# NSN. Right hand threaded 1 7/16" long turn off barrels having 8 grooved left hand rifling, BCP crossed pennant Birmingham proofs plus lug to engage its lollipop shaped barrel wrench. Ring of decorative engraving at muzzle of each barrel. Mfg. 1813-1855 based on its Birmingham crossed pennant frame proofs of "V" and "BCP". Research indicates made by William Smith of Leiciester Square London who operated primarily from 1817-1824. Flat sided bag shaped grip handles having German silver engraving shields on backstraps. Tops to backstraps along with butts are finely checkered. Frames have decorative floral engraving, cap retainers with profile that resembles a flintlock frizzen, folding triggers that pop out only with full cock hammer pull plus behind the hammer sliding safeties. Pistols are in the white and have an oval on each side with "LONDON" on the right and "SMITH" on the left. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: very good vintage compartmentalized walnut presentation case with felt lined interior to included padded section under lid bordered by small brass nails. Two simple brass hinges (one broken screw) plus single latch with diamond shaped pearl fascia surrounding key opening (no key). About 18 freshly cast 50 cal. lead balls. Case colored holder for caps (some top hat shaped caps icluded), etc. (shape reminiscent of a Bic lighter) marked "James-Dixon & Sons" on 1 hinged end cap and "10Z" on the opposite cap. Lollipop shaped barrel wrench appearing in the white with light patina. CONDITION: very good cleaned metal surfaces and very light handling marks on the handles. Fine mechanical functioning.
