British 1796 Pattern Heavy Dragoon Flintlock Pistol, #2478, .75 cal., smoothbore, 9" round barrel with single flat iron key, bright finish hardwood stock; brass buttcap, trigger guard, and forend cap. No sights. Swiveling iron rammer is in good condition, it operates and locks in place smoothly. Two-line lockplate is marked "TOWER" on the tail and with "(Crown)/GR" and a Lock Viewers mark stamped under the pan. There is two-line engraving to the flat hammer. There are Proof and View marks stamped on left side of the barrel. Right side of the buttcap is stamped "1814/B/81". "(star)2478" is stamped on top of the barrel and partially on the lockplate. Condition overall is fair, barrel has dark brown patina, and the lockplate assembly shows darkening and patina. Wood is fair, with a glue repaired crack behind the lockplate, small cracks and chips to both sides of the forend. Hammer and frizzen spring operate smoothly. Hammer holds on half and full cock. Bore rates fair to good with surface rust but may clean better. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
