BSA 1872 Snider-Enfield Mark III Percussion Cap Trapdoor Rifle 577 Snider

Snider-Enfield Mark III rifle manufactured by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in 1872.

While it is commonly called a trapdoor because of its hinged breach block, collectors and historians
distinctly refer to this specific British action as a Snider mechanism.

Has the Manufacturer (B.S.A. Co) stamped clearly on side lockplate. Plus the Crown over VR (for
Queen Victoria)..

BSA was a major commercial contractor for the British War Department and foreign governments
(like Canada).
The Trapdoor (Snider Action): Unlike the American Springfield Trapdoor (which hinges forward), the
Snider breech block hinges open to the right side.
The Percussion Cap/Hammer System: Early Mark I and Mark II Sniders were direct conversions of
muzzle-loading 1853 Enfield percussion muskets. By 1872, BSA was manufacturing Mark III Sniders
, which were newly built from scratch.
It fires the massive .577 Snider black powder cartridge.

Condition is as shown - Lots of wear is seen on the hardwood stock but no cracks.
The metal surfaces are all dark patina and does show some lines ontop of receiver and barrel - no idea what those are from.
Barrel is dark with some surface rust showing.

Stamping on lock plate and rear stock is well defined.
