SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH SCARCE FACTORY BOX. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 8185o. Bbl. 3 3/4". Beautiful Model 1920 Commercial Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM post-WWI from remaining military surplus / newly produced parts and components for commercial sales. The left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a Crown/N commercial nitro proof, which is repeated on the underside of the bbl., as well as on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front of frame is marked "8185/ GERMANY/ o". Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector, which exhibit a heated straw finish. Mag. catch spring and grip screws exhibit a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Interior of left grip panel exhibits a handwritten "John H Morgan/ From H. Q./ Binkley", followed by "Denver/ Colo." and "9/9/44" in black ink. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the "hidden" commercial fashion, and include the frame, sideplate, trigger, bbl., and rear toggle link. Hold-open latch is a replacement, marked "66". MAGS: x2 8-rd. plated mags. with wood plugs. Underside of plugs are marked "GERMANY". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: an exceedingly rare DWM factory red cardboard box. Lid is marked "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN/ BERLIN/ Parabellum - Pistole Cal. 7,65 m/m". Underside of box exhibits a handwritten "H.Q. Brinkley" in black ink. Box contains an original factory manual in German, with an apparent added paper label on the interior of the lid that mirrors the text on the exterior. CONDITION: fine, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory rust blue finish, exhibiting some light wear and thinning (primarily along some edges), with some light superficial handling marks present overall. Strawed parts retain the majority of their original finish, exhibiting light wear and thinning at contact areas, most notably on the front face of the trigger. Grip screws show some light wear and thinning. Mirror bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are excellent. Box exhibits flaking (primarily along edges), areas of staining, and a few adhesive repairs overall. Spine of box has been repaired via a strip of duct tape. An especially attractive and high condition Model 1920 Commercial Luger, complete with a seldom encountered original DWM factory box. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1181/MLW).
