ARTILLERY LUGER WITH VL&D HOLSTER, MATCHING BOARD STOCK WITH STRAPS. Cal 9mm Luger. S# 73396. Artillery Luger with 8" barrel, fine tune drift adjustable front sight and 1-8 graduated tangent rear sight. Blank chamber, "GELADEN" marked extractor, DWM monogram on front toggle link. The full serial number is on the forward frame and under the barrel, the last two digits on the takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, barrel extension lug, and all the usual components of the toggle train. Crown/N proofs under the barrel, left side of barrel extension, breech block and front toggle link. Uniformly checkered walnut grips, neither are serial numbered but both with acceptances. MAGS: 8-rd. mag. with tinned body and walnut plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: commercial flat board stock marked "GERMANY", the matching rust-blued lug numbered "396", attaching to a commercial snap-flap holster, the obverse face, just below the belt loops, marked with a large (1.5") flying duck/triangle "VL&D" seal. Independently secured belt loop and shoulder strap with brass fittings. Additionally, this example is accompanied by a January 1980 issue of Arms Gazette, which features images and details of this pistol and holster on pages 26 & 27, as well as a 1925-2926 Von Lengerke & Detmold sales catalog. CONDITION: pistol with 99+% professionally applied rust blue. Enhanced strawed components in comparable condition, the safety lever slightly loose in the "off" position. Dark oil stained grips with slightly blunted checkering, particularly the left panel. Excellent magazine. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. Stock, holster, and belt loop in comparable condition, the stock lug likely reworked at the same time as the pistol, shoulder strap with cracks and moderate crazing. A wonderfully presenting DWM Commercial Luger with matching board stock and VL&D marked holster, previously featured in "Arms Gazette". PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-2221/LMA). CURIO. $6,500-9,500.
