Antique Colt 1st Generation Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter, #100637, .44-40 cal., 7.5" barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut grip, blade front sight, and fixed square-notch rear sight. Barrel with single line address. All matching visible serial numbers with "8866" inside the loading gate. Mfg'd 1885. Revolver is in good overall condition, retaining traces of original finish on the straps and trigger guard. Barrel displays mottled gray patina with surface erosion and partially legible acid etched panel. Cylinder is now gray, with fine pinprick pitting and erosion. Frame shows silvered color case hardened finish with sharp patent dates, some areas of light pitting and erosion, deeper at the left rear. Grips are very good, showing moderate age, wear, and handling; interior of the grip channel is marked "0637" in pencil. Action functions well with four distinct clicks and good timing. Bore is good with some visible light erosion and well-defined rifling. Includes a copy of the Colt factory letter confirming the features and indicating the revolver was shipped on June 18, 1885, to Hartley and Graham, New York, New York, with a total of 28 guns in shipment. Additionally, under remarks, the research contained a 2nd letter for this serial number also indicating .44-40 caliber, 7.5" barrel, and blue finish, stocks not listed. This revolver was included in a shipment of 10 guns to Folsom Brothers, New York, New York on May 26, 1885. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
