PISTOL, WITH VAXARIAS MAKER MARK. Cal. 64. NSN. Bbl. 7". Miquelet pistol of Spanish origin. The bbl. consists of a tapered faceted breech section, followed by several ornamental bands, which terminate in a rnd. muzzle. The faceted section of the bbl. features light ornamental embellishments (appearing to have once depicted an anchor above flowers), with the top flat of the breech exhibiting a crown over "VAX/ ARI/ AS" maker mark (Vaxarias of Ripoll, Catalonia). Bbl. features additional ornamental engraving forward of the transition bands, as well as on the bbl. tang, with additional engraving extending to the lock assembly. Bbl., lockplate, and belt hook have been cleaned and are in-the-white. Hammer and frizzen exhibit a blue finish overall. 1-piece wood stock features a section of relief carving around the bbl. tang, and brass furniture consisting of a highly engraved sideplate, wrist escutcheon, pommel cap (with stirrups), trigger guard, and ramrod ferrule. Stock exhibits a layer of added lacquer. Bbl. is retained via a small plated brass band towards the muzzle. Sideplate is fitted with an iron belt hook. Plain wood ramrod with flat brass tip. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: consignor provided research. CONDITION: bbl., lockplate, and belt hook retain a bright appearance, exhibiting scattered spots of light to mild pitting. Brass stock hardware has been cleaned at one time, showing scattered spots of patina. Proper manual mechanics, with the hammer holding at half-cock. Stock is good, showing some superficial handling marks, with a older repair present beneath the lacquer along the lower edge of the lockplate. (01-29203/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
