HUDSON VALLEY LONG FOWLER CARVED 1774. Cal. 65. NSN. Fully 6.5 feet overall, 59.75" tapered 3-stage round import British barrel, dovetailed crescent blade front sight, breech and tang have cut-in sighting groove. Mounted on high comb curly maple stock with raised carved moldings. Pattern 1740 British Brown Bess lockplate with unsupported serpentine cock and the early bridled frizzen, curled toe trigger. Distinctive Hudson Valley triggerguard is mounted on a raised relief molding with arrowhead finial forward of trigger bow, not carved rear of trigger bow. Long Dutch-style buttplate tang has screw in center lobe. Ramrod pipes have ringed design, barrel tang is surrounded by relief carving. Classic Hudson Valley open pierced flowing serpentine design sideplate like lock has raised relief moldings terminating in pointed beavertails. There is raised carved floral spray rear of back ramrod pipe with incised lines moving forward along both sides of the ramrod channel to nose. Carved on left buttstock "AWM / 1774". CONDITION: Very good overall with professional restoration, lock is original flint configuration, dark iron patina to lock & barrel. Brass has mixed patinas. Stock sound with several well-hidden insets, age crack at toe, 10.5" of forestock is restored along with front ramrod pipe, back half of trigger guard is restored, varnish coated overall, mechanics are fine, smooth clear bore.
