CONVERTED TAKEDOWN PENNSYLVANIA RIFLE WITH SIGNED BBL. Cal. 40. Fit with a 42 1/4" octagon bbl with brass muzzle & breech bands. It carries a dovetailed silver blade front sight, a semi buckhorn tiny V notch rear sight, & a signed "JA SPA" at the rear of the top flat. The flint lock was made by H. Meacham & Co. and accented with a scrolling foliate engraving flanking the round bodied percussion hammer that is engraved with a light scroll pattern. It was converted with a drum conversion bolster. The stock is a work of art made with a gentle Roman nose shaped comb and embellished with a pierced 2-piece brass patchbox with a domed bottom hinged lid and lightly engraved with a federal eagle. The stock is separated at the mid point with a brass connection having curved finial plates. A pierced brass comb plate with spear point finial and runs the length of the comb. The raised cheekpiece has a wavy line engraved brass cap with a pieced brass plate located underneath. The patchbox cover release is located on the brass toe line plate that runs 4 3/8" from the toe with an engraved wavy border. The hickory ram rod is held in place with 3 faceted ferrules. CONDITION: Overall very good. The iron has a uniform dark brown patina. The stock is very good with a missing crescent moon inlaid cheekpiece. Brass has a nice mellow patina.
