Cal. 40-82 WCF. S# 9959. Mfg. 1887. This honest 1886 Deluxe is fitted with a 28" octagon bbl that has dovetailed front sight with German silver insert and adjustable leaf sporting sight rear sight that is graduated from 2-10. It has the early "-MANUFACTURED BY THE - / - WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-" bbl address and "40-82 WCF" caliber marking. The upper tang of the case colored pistol grip frame is the marked with the early type "-MODEL 1886-" tang marking. The lower tang has the assembly number "2885" and assembly marks "XX" & "S". The factory checkered XX pistol grip stock is marked with the matching "2885" assembly number inside of the upper channel. The factory checkered this rifle with style H checkering. The matching assembly number "2885" is found again on the inside of the smooth steel shotgun buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Record listing the features: "rifle / 40/82 caliber / octagon barrel / plain trigger / checkered stock / pistol grip / shotgun butt / Received in the warehouse on December 14, 1887 / Shipped from the warehouse December 20, 1887". CONDITION: overall good+. The bbl retains 60% of its thinning original blue with some high edge wear and small light freckled spots of old oxidation. The frame has traces of case coloring in some of the protected areas with the balance having a nice silvery grey patina with some similar freckling. The bolt retains 60% of its original blue. The stock set is hand worn with some of the original varnish remaining on the butt. The forearm has some hand wear to the checkering and finish with some light scattered handling marks otherwise good. The butt checkering is in similar hand worn condition with 2 large old chips around the tang area, some dents, and light handling marks. The buttplate has some mottled old surface oxidation. A good honest example. (01-26703/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $7,000-$10,000.
