RIFLE. Cal. 38-56. S# 59565. Mfg. 1892. It is fitted with a 30" #3 weight octagon bbl with "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" address & "38-56 WCF" cal marking. The bbl is fitted with a dovetailed Rocky Mountain German silver blade front sight. and elevator adj semi buckhorn sporting sight. The case colored thin side straight grip frame has the early unmarked upper tang and "PAT. OCT. 7TH 79" lower tang patent date. It carries a smooth walnut stock set with Schnabel forend having an ebony black insert and crescent smooth steel buttplate with 2 1/4" tang. CONDITION: overall good. The bbl has 40% thinning original blue with the balance having a mottled brown patina with some edge/muzzle wear, freckled spotty old oxidation, scattered handling marks, and crisp markings. The frame case coloring has faded with the remaining exposed surfaces having a silvery grey patina. The stock set has been lightly sanded with added varnish. The forearm has some edge chips and light handling marks. The butt has a small tight crack at the upper tang, a few small edge chips, flaking varnish, and some scattered handling marks. Bore has some light frosting, decent lightly worn rifling and some small patches of pitting. (01-28794/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
