VARIATION WALTHER ZERO SERIES P.38 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 05184. Bbl. 4 7/8". Third variation Zero Series P.38 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Walther. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner logo, followed by "P.38", and the S# "05184", with 2 Walther Eagle/359 proofs and an eagle firing proof marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish overall, save for on the firing pin / indicator cover, which exhibits a dull blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black synthetic grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, and bbl. Grips are matching via "184" on the interior of the panels above a Walther Eagle/359 proof. Locking block is unnumbered. This example is listed by S# on page 47 of "The P.38 Pistol" by Alexander Krutzek. MAGS: x1 later war dull blue finished 8-rd. mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster mfg. by Carl Heinichen marked "joa/ 1941", followed by "P.38" on the rear. CONDITION: metal components retain nearly all of their lustrous high polish blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light edge wear, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, to include the safety / decocking lever. Grips show mild wear to the checkering, as well as some superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting varying degrees of age related cracking and crazing overall. An absolutely exceptional third variation Zero Series Walther P.38 that is undoubtedly the best example this cataloger has encountered to date. (26-2081/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
