Cal. 45-60. S# 35516. Mfg. 1883. This 3rd model rifle is fitted with a 28" octagonal bbl with dovetailed German silver sporting front sight, adjustable leaf rear sight, caliber marking, and standard 2-line bbl address. The dust cover is of the serrated edge type and the frame has an integral dust cover guide rail. The lower tang is marked with the assembly number "1725". The upper tang is marked with the later 3rd style "MODEL. 1876" with foliate accents. The elevator is marked with the "45-60" cal marking. The rifle forearm and stock terminate with a steel nosecap and smooth steel crescent trapdoor buttplate. The stock and buttplate have matching "1528" assembly number. CONDITION: overall good+. The bbl retains 70% of thinning original blue with some high edge wear, a few patches of oxidation and some dings. Mag tube has approx 50% thinning original blue with the balance shifting to an even brown patina. Rec retains 60% of its original blue with some patches of old oxidation, freckling and light handling marks. with the balance turning to a brown patina. Crisp markings including on the elevator. The stock set is lightly hand worn. The forearm has some minor edge chips, a few heavy gouges, and a couple of tight small cracks. The butt has scattered handling marks, a few dents and a small crack at the lower tang. Lightly frosted bore with decent rifling and some pitting. (01-28772/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
