Cal. 44 HRF. S# 110297. Mfg. 1873. The rifle is fitted with a 24" octagonal bbl with dovetailed sporting front sight and musket style ladder rear sight. It is marked with the later 2nd style 2-line bbl address " WINCHESTERS-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." The third model frame is marked with the SN behind the trigger and a "R" is found on the lower tang under the stock. The standard length rifle forearm is held with an early brass nosecap with sling swivel eyelet. The rifle stock is numbered with the last 4 digits of the SN in the upper channel and is fitted with a factory applied sling swivel and matching numbered (last 3-digits) brass crescent buttplate with flip up trapdoor. There is a carving in the left butt of what appears to be a downward arrow, possibly an Indian applied marking. CONDITION: overall good. Bbl and mag tube finishes have faded to an even dark grey patina, retaining good markings. Brass components have a nice mellow mustard patina with some scattered handling marks. Stock has heavy wear including a fair amount of saddle style wear with added varnish. The forearm has a fair amount of loss of wood around the bbl channel and some heavy dents. Stock has a large repair at the upper tang area of the wrist, a crack that runs along the cleaning rod compartment and some heavy gouges. Bore has worn rifling and mild pitting. (01-28814/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
