TWO-TRIGGER "MILITARY CARBINE". Cal. 44 RF. S# 2380. There were approx 4500 "Military Carbine" 1st variation rifles made by Frank Wesson. These included a 24" bbl with sling swivels. The famous Ohio sporting goods store Kittredge and Co were well known to add their own markings to firearms as this example has had done on the top flat. They were also known to have supplied approx 750 examples to Indiana, however we can not say with certainty that this is one of those military carbines. The rec has an added saddle ring. Stock is of the flat comb carbine style. There are no sub-inspector marks or inspector cartouches. Due to any government procurements being done at the state level under federal authority inspection markings would not be present if it were one of those rifles. CONDITION: overall good. Metal has a mottled grayish brown smooth patina. Stock is good with some small cracks at the buttplate and wrist area. Bore has lightly worn rifling with some pitting. (01-29057/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
